The Greek National Opera will open this year’s Athens Epidaurus Festival at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus with a performance of one of the most beloved operas in the repertoire, Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca, on 1, 2, 6, and 11 June 2024, conducted by Hugo de Ana and with a direction revived by Katerina Petsatodi. Tickets for Tosca are now available at the GNO Box Office, the Box Offices of the Athens Epidaurus Festival, and online at www.aefestival.gr and www.more.com.

Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca, directed and with sets and costumes designed by Hugo de Ana, is the first massive summer opera production of the Greek National Opera at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus for 2024. The production that was first staged at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in 2012 is fascinating, dramatic, and absolutely true to the composer’s spirit, as well as to the historical context where the libretto is set. The magnificent stage sets featuring a huge Crucifix, a holy table, and a painting studio, are complemented by spectacular projections of renowned Rome monuments, religious symbols, and captivating videos, offering the production a cinematic flair.

For this year’s revival of Tosca, the Greek National Opera has secured two riveting casts. In the role of Floria Tosca, the audience will have the chance to enjoy the renowned sopranos Evgenia Muraveva and Cellia Costea. The role of Mario Cavaradossi will be shared by two exceptional tenors, Riccardo Massi and Carl Tanner, while Scarpia will be portrayed by the internationally acclaimed baritone Tassis Christoyannis and renowned bass-baritone Yanni Yannissis. Performing alongside them will be celebrated Greek soloists, including Tassos Apostolou, Petros Magoulas, Yannis Kalyvas, and more.
